Access Control
Access control is perhaps the weakest part of security. The most common reason for a break-in is actually that the access details have been handed out/ treated with little care, meaning that unscrupulous people can use the information to trespass on the property. There are ways to avoid this, but the simplest and most effective, is only share the access information with your head of security and yourself.
Access control can refer to either alarm codes or electronic access. If you have an alarm set up or a security gate then it this is the weak spot. People mention their pin to someone else, inform the security guards of the access information – which in truth is not a requirement for them to know, keep the same codes for everything – allowing someone to access everything if they manage to crack or discover one code. If its electronic access that is the concern, then it is often a wise idea to have two people needed to access the fundamental security measures, each with their own choice of pin code. This makes breaking in much harder to do as whilst someone may crack one code, it is unlikely they’ll be able to manage two.
